5 makeup mistakes to stop now!

Hello hello, ridiculously enough, this is my first post of 2015! My life has been pretty boring, hence the lack of presence, I have a few ideas that I'm working on, but please put all suggestions in the comments and please leave me feedback! Enjoy...

{Disclaimer; I am not a makeup artist, but these points have been collected from experience, trained MUA's and articles.}

1. Mascara pumping

Pumping mascara is something that we have all been guilty of, however it is more than a bad habit. By using this technique to get more product on the wand, it is also getting bacteria into the tube, this can create a higher risk of eye infections.

It also makes the formula dry out quicker, although this can be a good thing, it shouldn't come with the risk of prescription eye drops!

2. Not curling your lashes

Curling eyelashes can make a massive difference to your makeup, especially the first time that you do it, it creates the illusion of you being more wide-eyed and awake. It also makes you use less mascara than before, because you don't need as much to make your lashes look longer and stand out.

TopTip: If you have stubborn lashes, try slightly heating the eyelash curlers with a hairdryer to fix a curl longer, it sets a curl into your lashes as they cool, making it last longer.

3. Concealer first

Applying concealer first can make your base cakey and cause you to use more product than needed. Applying foundation first can make you see where you really need the extra coverage. It's really important to make sure your concealer the right colour, if it's not, your skin will end up looking patchy, If you're between colours then mix the two on the back of your hand and use the Lisa Eldridge technique!

4. Using dirty brushes

Although frustrating to keep on top of, keeping your brushes clean can save a lot of effort in the long run. By using dirty brushes, you are more likely to cause breakouts as any cells from old breakouts can move to different areas of your face if they are left on your brush.

I use baby shampoo and this pet groomer (similar here) as a substitute for the sigma bush cleanser.

5. Not paying attention to your eye shape

When applying eye makeup, paying attention to your eye shape can avoid some strange looking works of art. You also need to accept that although you won't be able to pull off all the new makeup trends, it is likely there is a way for you to alter them to work for you.
Here are some articles that you may find useful is you don't know how to apply makeup for your eye shape; Babble.com, Smashbox / YouTube, Julep.com.
