University: Stay on track during winter break

Whether you're in high school or taking part in a post-grad course, the school breaks are often a time that we all struggle with motivation and the transition back into work, later on. Many people are given time over the winter to complete assignments to be handed in post-Christmas. Some time between the numerous bubble baths we take as soon as we walk in the door, and the sitting on suitcases to return, we have to make time to write 3000 odd words towards our final grades.

University: first impressions

Jumping back into my comfort zone of lifestyle based blog posts, last week I began my first week of classes at university studying a marketing degree. I'm just going to jump straight into it with some things that I learnt.

You get less support and help from your lecturers, but you have a lot more time to figure out how you work best. All of your tutors understand that you are not going to stay locked up 24/7 and never enter a club or bar. They even encourage you to get out!

A lazy girls guide to make-up

Having recently arrived at my first year of university life, I have become even more lazy about my makeup, although that may not be seen as humanly possible!

I have come up with a few rules that I live by at the worst of my lazy streak, but when social culture calls for me to be presentable.

How to act like an adult (for newbies)

New to adulthood? Here are some tips on how to blend in!

  • Always sound surprised when you're asked for ID; because of course, you havent been asked for your ID for years!
  • A part time job is essential for all responsible, self sufficient adults... having disposable income is what it's all about for those spontanious purchases.
  • Having aspirations and being confident to tell people your game plan of acheivement when they ask "So, what are you doing with that qualification?" will only make them respect you more. It also can be used as a progressive conversation starter for any awkward family reunions for years to come.

Curls, Pearls and Prom dresses

In England proms aren't as much of a big deal as they are in the US, so it's all quite casual really. Hence the train that we caught to take us from the end of the Pier up to the venue, to avoid any decking-stiletto disasters of course (1st Picture).

As we were all concentrating on catching up with everyone before the summer, when we all leave to go our separate ways, I didn't have much chance to take pictures, so this is the best of what I could get!

10 must have apps for a teenage princess

The app store is filled with billions of apps for different things and hundreds of claims to glorious acts, however I've narrowed down my top ten that must be on your phone at all times, approved by a princess (or should be).

Holiday essentials and travel tips

Hey y'all, here's a few travelling tips I've picked up over the past month!

Even if you don't think you'll need them, you will. Take all chargers for your kindle, iPod, phone, iPad, whatever you're taking.

Take a small notepad for sudden inspiration.

Obviously the SPF, and don't forget the SPF lip balm!

Prom inspiration - Bohemian

Bonjour encore!
For my leavers prom this year, everyone is going fairly casual as the venue is a pier and most of us are planning on going out afterwards (and Weston-Super-Mare isn't one of the most formal towns to say the least) Taking into account that we are most likely to be taking cheesy group pictures on the grey-ing sand, I thought I'd make the most on the casual vibes and go with a bohemian theme for my prom look. Although I will be posting picture of my full, finished outfit at some point, here are some inspirations for your prom outfits! (Taken from my Bohemian and Prom 2014 Pinterest boards)

My bucket list

Hello all!

First off, I feel awful for neglecting my blog recently! I know excuses are pathetic, but I feel I should explain myself all the same. It's just as simple as a tonne of essay and coursework deadlines piled onto me within the space of the last week before the holidays, I know that we've all been there but I'm not great at dealing with it at all! Eventually I will do a post explaining everything with some tips that I would recommend.

For now, I hope that you all enjoy this little insight into my... life plan... I guess!

Top 10 movies

As difficult this is for me, I'm going to attempt it anyway!  Here are my top movies for a few different nights in; enjoy!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Movie night the guys and gals;

What's in my suitcase?

Personally, I hate packing to go away because I am generally awful at packing and
either forget something or overpack like no-ones buisness! Here are the outfits that I am taking on a 4 day trip to Durham with the folks! Click here to see the previous post about my travel makeup and wash bag.
(And I am really sorry for the picture quality! I often leave packing until the night before meaning terrible lighting)

What's in my travel makeup and wash bag.

(Makeup bag from Cath Kidston, see here for similar)
By the time you are reading this I will be 5 hours from home, in Durham visiting old friends. I thought that this would be an opportunistic time to do a blog post about travelling with makeup and toiletries, hence the title. As I am only away for 4 days (2 of which are travelling) I don’t need to bring anything fancy so I have tried to pack as much multi-tasking products as possible. Who am I kidding, that never works!

What's in my schoolbag?

As I am in my last year of sixth form, I only take 3 subjects, averaging out to about 3 lessons each day (sometimes 4, sometimes none) so my bag is a complete lightweight. However I do carry around variations of different items with me depending on what I am doing that day.

Twitter update

Why hello there,
I just wanted to make a short but sweet post to alert you all to the fact that I have just created a Twitter account!
I thought it best to jump on the social media ASAP so here it is; www.twitter.com/longingforacity
Please follow me and Tweet me some blog post ideas... I will do my very best to reply to them all, but then again there is school to keep me pretty occupied at the moment, you know, that small hitch in an otherwise perfectly relaxing day!

I hope that you're all enjoying the olympics!
Ciao, Lauren

To begin with...

A journey,

You can start a journey with anything; a deep breath, your best foot first, a morning shower, prep talks, or just a "hello" to that hot guy that you met on the train. A journey is anything that you want it to be or anything that has been.
As for me, my journeys, I've had quite a few. I could tell you the 'ins and outs' of them all, but a brief introduction is probably best.
My name is Lauren. I was born in Durham on the 19th of May 1996 to the best parents that I could possibly ask for. I was four when we moved to Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire and spending only 8 years in its substandard infant, junior and upper school education. I met, fought and made up with my longest lasting and closest friends. By the time I was twelve we (two sisters heavier) picked up again to a small town in Somerset.
Now I live 15 minutes away from a Tesco express, Budgens and Subway. This is hardly enough to quench my thirst for the small taste of real Cities that my not-very-well-traveled-self has had.
At 17 I have had my share of family holidays and appreciate them as much as the next girl, however a 5 day school trip to New York opened my eyes to the love - hate relationship of a proper city.
I feel that I am now at the start of a metaphorical journey that I wanted to make a record of; for now anonymously (to a degree) to avoid the judging eyes of the "click" system.
However in order to end up in any of the few cities that I love I need to find motivation in something that I do. This is where my new blog comes in.
Until next time...
Ciao, Lauren
